Original in the National Library of France, considered one of its most precious jewels. The Great Hours of Anne of Brittany (dated between the years 1503-1508) is, without a doubt, the masterpiece of French painting, as befits a manuscript intended for the queen of France twice: with Charles VIII and with Louis XII.
We have always said that the codices are like small miniature pictorial museums, and this jewel of a manuscript is a living example of this. Jean Bourdichon painted almost fifty full-page scenes framed in gold against the background of the black-stained parchment, as if they were small canvas paintings.
The master Bourdichon was a court painter of Louis XI, Carlos VIII, Luis XII and Francisco I, and his paintings constitute a clear advance from Gothic towards the Renaissance.
This copy corresponds to the facsimile edition of the Moleiro publishing house from 2008. There is another edition of the Versol publishing house, cheaper and equally very beautiful, that we also have available, with the title of Book of Hours of Ana de Bretagne.
