Facsimile edition of the original manuscript of St. Thomas More, Tristitia Christi (On the Sadness of Christ), written in 1535 during his confinement in the Tower of London.
The Englishman Thomas More, also known by its Spanish name Thomas More, or by its Latin name Thomas Morus (1478-1535), wrote in his own hand this manuscript in the Tower of London at the time was confined before his beheading on 6 July 1535. This latest manuscript, saved from confiscation decreed by Henry VIII passed by the will of his daughter Margaret to Spanish hands and through Fray Pedro de Soto, confessor of Emperor Charles V, was to stop Valencia, home of Luis Vives, a close friend of Moro. It is currently preserved in the collection belonging to the Museum of the Royal College of Corpus Christi of Valencia.
But perhaps the most famous work of Thomas More is Utopia, also wrote other important texts, such as De Tristitia Christi. An unusual personal courage, Thomas More wrote months before his execution. It is the spiritual testament of the first order of a lover of freedom of conscience.
Edition in 1998 by the City of Valencia consists of the facsimile of the original manuscript (size 12 x 17 cm) plus a volume with transcription of the original text and its translation into Spanish (hardcover with dust jacket, 18 x 25.2 cm , 242 pages), both in a case book format 29.5 x 41.5 x 5 cm.
The case presents very slight signs of use on its outer part. Facsimile and study book in mint condition.
