Goya was the year 1996, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828). During the year various cultural activities and various types Goya sponsored by the State Society 96. One of the activities carried out by that State Society which was undertaken in conjunction with the Bank of Commerce took place: medal and commemorative coin Year Goya, initiative and identify that evoke far beyond the calendar year of celebration.
Medal and commemorative coin Year Goya was an exclusive, limited edition presentation, two pieces of undoubted numismatic value: the commemorative medal of the Year Goya and legal tender of 2,000 pesetas issued by the National Mint and Stamp occasion the 250th anniversary of the birth of Francisco de Goya.
To carry out the medal he had the exquisite design of one of our best knowledge of the art of relief: Consuelo de la Cuadra. For the obverse Goya chose a force transmitter and psychological depth. On the reverse, an evocation of the origins of the painter (his birthplace in Fuendetodos) returns us to the human dimension of the artist. Coined bronze with a diameter of 60 mm, thickness 7.5 mm, and weighs 130 grams.
The coin corresponds to the official commemorative edition of the FNMT 2,000 pesetas in 1996, legal tender in Spain, minted in 925 sterling silver with a diameter of 33 mm, thickness 2.03 mm and weighing 18 grams.
Both are presented in a folder case with magnetic closures, made expressly for this occasion, format 13.2 x 12.8 x 1.3 cm. Total weight: 265 grams.
