Exemplary of the extraordinary German facsimile made in 2007 of the Psalter of St. Albans, whose original, dated between 1123 and 1135, is guarded in Hildesheim. Thanks to this facsimile edition, the work is again complete, since it was separated into two pieces.

Both the facsimile and the study book are delivered in a chest-case made by hand and with noble materials.
The original work has its origin in the Abbey of San Albano, London, Romanesque style and written in Latin and French. It has 46 with thumbnails to full page and 214 initials historiados, all richly decorated.
The work contains the main part of the most popular Psalms of King David and also a liturgical calendar, prayers, songs and other unusual texts. It was created at the beginning of century XII by order of the Abbot Geoffrey de Gorham for Cristina de Markyate.
A work so special, beautiful and richly elaborated, usually maintains a special history. The Salterio Albans tells the story of a friendship between Abbot Geoffrey of Gorham (1119-1149), the English Abbey of St. Albano, and the recluse Cristina de Markyate (circa 1096-1155). This one, coming from a rich family, fled of its union arranged in the zone of Markyate, where retired to a hermitage. There she was with Geoffrey of Gorham, well-known abbot of the abbey, under whose protection was the hermitage. They influenced each other greatly in their spirituality and personality and developed a close friendship relationship that led to wild speculation.
In addition to King David’s Psalms, the magnificent manuscript includes a liturgical calendar, 40 full-page miniatures on the life of Christ, Alexis’s old French song, and a letter to Pope Gregory the Great, as well as a series of instructive images .
The beautifully artistic, high quality and incredibly rich images make this Psalter a unique work. Its illuminations create a flow of images in many colors and shapes. The ornamental design of the figurative scenes make it even more elaborate. Stylistically the work contains Byzantine and Otonian influences, which make this magnificent manuscript an example of the English Romance period of book lighting, which can be seen as a golden age in the insular production of codices. The main illuminator of this work was Master Alexis and the initials come from the hand of three different illuminators.
