The facsimile version of this work is part of the line of recovery of codices as artistic sources that began in the 19th century. Illustrations gained unusual importance in this period as a complement to the texts and in some cases, such as the one in question, an aberrant bibliophile and commercial practice was carried out: the factitious composition of a copy enriching its original iconographic program with series taken from other manuscripts.
In this book of hours, to increase its value, two groups of images from other sources were added. This fraudulent operation has its counterpart in the fact that manuscript 88 of the Episcopal Library of Vic today constitutes a singular, strange and unique piece.
The reader who goes through its beautiful pages finds an authentic florilegium of the best styles that reigned in the production of books of hours. The manuscript therefore offers a privileged collection of illuminated pages that allow us to discover in an anthological way creations born from different sources of inspiration.
