With this work, its author proposed to fulfill the objective par excellence of every Hispanic Baroque historian who prided himself on being one and who, as in his case, enjoyed that official position: the “deification” of the Habsburgs, to justify in multiple ancestry of purity of blood the immense shed of his empire; It is clear that, basically, in order to ensure continuity in favor of the expectant monarch, the crown prince Felipe, to whom the book is addressed. His attempt was carried out with the most attractive, concise and forceful procedure at the same time that he had at hand: genealogy, with the precise touches of a supreme heraldry. And surely, nothing more brilliant and easy, although his good years of work took him, than to seek connections through solid trunks and zigzagging branches, of the powerful family with the most illustrious prosapias of kings and emperors, and even with saints –more of half a dozen-, of all time and everywhere. The result could not be more flattering, thanks to the printing press, on whose account it is necessary to charge not a small part of the credit. Indeed, this work is of a sumptuous and complicated typography, patient, as befits such an ambitious content and such a high destiny.
