Beautiful facsimile reproduction made in 1998 of this little Book of Hours so little known but of great importance because it contains 15 full-page miniatures, attributed to the great flamenco master Gerard David (1460-1523). Original preserved in the Library of the Monastery of El Escorial, sign. showcase 12.

The most beautiful miniature of all is the Virgin with the Child in her arms at the beginning of the book, which has all the characteristics of an altarpiece of the time and it was with certainty made by David himself. In other cases, the refined altarpiece seems to have reproduced miniatures, which are based on designs by other prestigious illuminators of Bruges, such as the master of the Book of Hours of Dresden and the Master of Edward IV of England.

The rest of the illuminations of this particular manuscript offer a unique perspective of the working methods of the Flemish illuminators. Another reason for the importance of this Book of Hours, which is in the Library of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, is that it is among the very few Books of Hours dated from the Ghent-Bruges school. In the final part of the book, a parchment appears with the date 1486, located on the margin surrounding the miniature of Saint Lazarus, therefore, the book is among the first testimonies of the activity of David in Bruges, from 1484 onwards.

The binding of the facsimile is faithful to the original and is also made in brown leather stamped dry on both sides with closure hardware in aged silver and drawn. Format 11.5 x 15.7 cm. 478 pages

Complementary study book bound in hard cover in fabric decorated, illuminated and gilded. Format 11,7 x 15,8 cm.
