The Atlas of Pedro Texeira is unanimously considered as the most important mapping project of the seventeenth century, and at the same time, one of the atlas of greater value and beauty of the history of Spain.
Commissioned by Philip IV the Portuguese cosmographer Pedro Texeira, who finished it in 1634, Atlas went unnoticed for more than 300 years between the illuminated manuscripts of the Austrian emperors in the National Library of Austria, where he is currently held with the Cod signature Min. . 46.
It made for nearly ten years by a major expedition led by the great cosmographer and cartographer Pedro Texeira Portuguese (1595-1662).
It comprises almost 200 pages on laid paper, all with beautiful illustrations cartographic maps, color-rich, adorned with delicate gold and silver. Page size 35 x 45 cm.
Its huge importance is reflected in the fact that 90% of the locations that appear in it, did not have any other documents that reproduce his image well into the twentieth century.
The work of the facsimile won the National Best Books 2005 published in 2004. Ministry of Culture Prize. Type: Books Facsimiles. And the Fray Luis de León 2005 Award for best editorial work in Special and facsimile editions.
