Description

Extraordinary, luxurious and fantastic edition in high bibliophilia, of the first encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est, made in 2010 by the Marilena Ferrari Foundation – FMR on the original old-fashioned manuscript, as if it were a medieval codex , which the publisher gave in 2008 to SS Benedict XVI. The work reproduces the first Encyclical of S. S. Benedict XVI, a text of great intensity and beauty that represents the beginning of the Pope’s magisterium. An edition that deserves our highest 5-star plus distinction!

This edition of the Encyclical “Deus caritas est” is the result of an original artistic and cultural project promoted by the Marilena Ferrari House of Art, designed to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Deus Caritas Est (God is Love) is the first encyclical written by Pope Benedict XVI, and deals with the theme of Christian love. It was promulgated on December 25, 2005 in eight languages (Latin, Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Portuguese). This encyclical deals, in a total of 42 paragraphs, on the concepts of eros (human love), agape (unconditional love), logos λογος (the word), and their relationship with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

It is claimed that the first half of the encyclical was completely written by Benedict XVI himself in mid-2005, and that the second part is composed of incomplete writings by his predecessor, the late Pope Saint John Paul II. The document was signed by Pope Benedict XVI on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, 2005. Some sources have attributed the delay in the release of the document to the difficulty of translating the original German manuscript into Latin; some others, to certain debates about the precision that was wanted to offer the document. It is the first encyclical to be published after the Holy See decided to copyright all papal documents.

It is a work made in high Bibliophilia, numbered and limited to 700 copies signed by the publisher. The barrel-dyed natural calf leather binding with hot-stamped silver friezes was made at the Art of the Book by Bruno Superti, in Todi. The obverse and reverse of the work are decorated with two bas-reliefs patinated in 800 silver representing the portrait (the same copy number as the book is engraved here) and the coat of arms of SS Benedict XVI, modeled by Tiziano Collini in Cologne and made with the old method of casting on the ground in Guiseppe Belotti’s artistic laboratory in Erbusco. Large format 39 x 56.5 x 7.5 cm. 172 pages on special sheer gauze paper with Marilena Ferrari filigree.

The text is reproduced in Gothic pen script by the calligrapher Barbara Calzolari in Bologna; the pages are enriched with miniatures, friezes and initials made with lead and graphite points and painted with vegetal and artificial colors by the miniaturist Tiziana Gironi in Bologna. They were printed in ten-color lithoscreen printing at Luigi Berardinelli’s art print shop in Verona.

A revolving methacrylate display is delivered with a 40.5 x 11.3 cm base and a 38.5 cm turn.
