Description
The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha, the brilliant work of Cervantes and symbol of Spanish literature, in a unique, limited edition, commemorative of the IV Centenary of the first edition of “Don Quixote”, made in a miniature format of only 6 x 8 cm.
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes is a unique work in universal literature and one of the greatest novels ever written. In the summer of 1604 the publisher Francisco de Robles bought the manuscript that was finished printing the Christmas Eve of 1604. The price of the first volume of 664 pages was 290.5 maravedíes and it was intended to sell 500 copies. The following year, 1605, saw the light of five more editions, one in Madrid, two in Lisbon and two in Valencia. Throughout these four centuries, more than 2,500 editions have been made in 50 different languages. There are polyglot versions, in Esperanto and in Yiddish. There are printed on cork or divided into as many volumes as letters have the title. This version, complete and in miniature, is the smallest luxury edition ever made. It is a jewel for book lovers.
Ciro Oduber (Panama 1921 – Barcelona 2000), who as a draftsman and illustrator was also trained in Argentina and, finally, in Barcelona. He worked for more than 30 years as a professor of painting in various Ibero-American universities and at the Blanquerna University of Barcelona. His painting, closely linked to cubism due to its geometrized shapes and the decomposition of light into large prisms, has softened the deformation of the image in its evolution, leading to a neo-impressionist tendency. In 1990 he presented the complete illustration of four volumes of “The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha”.
