Description
The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quijote of La Mancha. IV Centenary Edition, adorned with 356 engravings by Gustavo Doré, fully commented by Diego Clemencín (1765-1834), and preceded by a critical study by Luis Astrana Marín, plus a summary index of the illustrators and commentators of Don Quixote by Justo García Morales. Ediciones Castilla, Madrid, c.1966 (although the year of publication is not stated).
This edition, although in a single volume, is one of the most complete and interesting editions of Cervantes’ immortal work, since its 2,102 double-column pages contain everything: the complete works of Don Quixote, many interesting illustrations, critical study, comments and notes. It is a book that should not be missing from any library, collector of Quixotes or bibliophile in general.
To these editorial characteristics we must add that the copy we offer is spectacularly beautiful, unique and exclusive due to its handcrafted binding in full leather with reliefs of Quixote motifs both on both sides and on the spine. A very special binding that enhances the edition and the universal work of Don Quixote and makes it a special pleasure to hold it in your hands and be able to delve into the adventures of the Hidalgo Caballero.
Book in perfect condition, 15 x 19 cm format in full leather with reliefs of Quixotic motifs and relief decorations. Tinted edges, 2 guide tapes. 2,102 pages on bible-sized paper with double-column texts, where Cervantes’ work and Clemencín’s comments and notes are practically divided in half. Full-page illustrations and headers at the beginning of each chapter. Easy to use and read.
Although the editor says “IV Centenario Edition”, the fact is that the work was published in 1966 (although the year of the edition is not stated) and we were unable to find the Centenario; perhaps the reason is a 1947 reissue for the IV Centenary of Cervantes’ birth in 1547.
