Lapidary of Alfonso X the Wise. Lapidary facsimile of the first edition contained in the first 94 pages of the manuscript hI15 Library of El Escorial (Madrid), to its original size (29.1 x 40.2 cm), printed on parchment paper 8 + 8 colors, reproducing, as faithfully, its 638 polychrome miniatures and initials. The companion volume, the same format as the facsimile and bound, like him, on wood covered with dry skin and stamped, has, in its 256 pages, three studies: one text transcription Castilian by Maria Brey Mariño, a second , scientific, studying the constellations, rocks and minerals and their applications in medicine, alchemy, magic, etc. and is run by Jose Luis Amoros Portolés; and, finally, a detailed study of astrology and art in the Lapidary, conducted by the specialist Ana Dominguez Rodriguez.
The Lapidary is the first book that came out of the workshop of Alfonso X the Wise in 1253, with the creative stage of the King (the Axedrez, Dados et Tablas, 1284, closes it) opens. It is also the first book written in Castilian prose, and the first big scientific book written in the Iberian Peninsula.
