This film was the pilot episode of the American science fiction television series SeaQuest DSV, originally broadcast on NBC between 1993 and 1996. In its last season its name was changed to seaQuest 2032. Known in Spain as seaQuest DSV: Los vigilantes del bottom of the sea.
Universal Studios did not publish this film on DVD and only made the first season of the television series, after thousands of pirated copies were sold, although it was not marketed in Spain. It was a series that was more successful outside the United States than within its own country and that only came to light thanks to the interest of Steven Spielberg. Fans of this series (referred to as “Questies”) have never understood the scorn it was subjected to by Universal Studios.
